Race Review - Shrewsbury Regatta 2010
Trafford Rowing Club started their summer regatta programme last Saturday and at the first event at Shrewsbury over a 1000 metre course on the River Severn recorded 5 victories.
Andy Sykes and Simon Weeks in their first competitive outing in double sculls achieved a win in the Novice event over Liverpool Victoria and the event favourites, Pengwern.
The club also achieved 3 wins in single sculls event for juniors. Will Robinson won the Junior Sculls event, Kernius Malys won the Junior 17 event beating Kings School Worcester and Bewdley Rowing Club whilst Ben Archer won the Junior 14 event overcoming competition from Runcorn Rowing Club. Kernius and Will combined to win the Junior Double Sculls.
There were also strong performances from a number of Women Junior Scullers (Chapman) and Double Scullers (Holder/Archer, Bates/Sykes) in their events as well as Junior Scullers (Hall, Lindsay & Holder).
The Intermediate 3 Coxed Four reached the semi-final of their event and were beaten by Bewdley in a close race. The Novice 4 in their first race acquitted themselves in one of the first races of the day but lost out by ľ of a length to a crew from Bridgnorth Rowing Club. The two fours then combined to make an Intermediate 3 Eight, borrowing a boat from Pengwern, and for a scratch crew acquitted themselves well against an established Hereford RC crew.
Thanks to Lydia and Richard for organising and co-ordinating the Juniors on the day and also to Andy Lowe for towing the trailer on what was a very long day.
Well done to everybody and here's to an even stronger performance at Northwich on Bank Holiday Monday.
