Head of the Mersey 2012

 

The first Head of 2012 was hosted by Warrington rowing club. As the day dawned the weather conditions were not promising, with freezing cold and thick fog. But after a delay to allow the fog to lift racing got underway in what became increasingly good conditions for rowing; cold, but still.


Trafford entered two rowers, Ben Archer in his composite J16 4x with Queen's Park High and Andy Sykes racing at Mas D for the first time, in a single. Ben's crew put together an excellent race to post one of the fasters times of the day. They not only won their age group, but were the fastest boat in their division, beating older junior crews and senior rowers. Andy also put together a good race and beat his opposition by almost 2 minutes, even after giving away a 20 second handicap.
So the first Head of the year is out of the way and it's two wins out of two.

It's great to see everyone back at the boathouse, and we're looking forward to another great year of rowing and socials.

11/12th – Boathouse tidy. Throughout the morning & early afternoon (following outings)


18th – Post Trafford Head Celebration Dinner (Venue TBC)


March:

 

3rd/4th – WeHORR – Post race dinner for the ladies & Spectators OR pub night in Manchester for those not in London. Venues TBC


9th – Bowling Night, Tenpin, Parrs Wood, Didsbury. Time TBC


24th – HORR post race dinner for the men & spectators OR pub night in Manchester for those not in London. Venues TBC


April:


7th- The Boat Race. Finding a big screen to watch the race. Details TBC.


21st (provisional date) - ANNUAL DINNER, theme and venue TBC


May:


15th – Pub Quiz, details TBC


28th - Trafford RC night on the town

- Bridgewater Canal Restriction to width of Navigation -

 

Bridgewater Canal Restriction to width of Navigation and temporary closure of towpath at Sale Bridge (Northenden Road Sale).

 

Navigation

 

Notice is hereby given that due to bridge maintenance being undertaken by Trafford Council, the navigation width will be restricted from the 14th November 2011 to 20th January 2012.

 

All persons in charge of pleasure craft must proceed with caution and are asked to comply with any signs or instructions given by flagmen.

 

 

Towpath

 

The towpath at Sale Bridge will be temporarily closed to pedestrians and cyclists from the 14th November 2011 to 20th January 2012 inclusive, an alternative diversion route will be signed around the closure.

 

The restriction to the navigation and closure of the towpath will be removed during the Christmas and New Year period from 24th December 2011 to the 4th January 2012 inclusive.

 

On behalf of Trafford Council the Company apologizes for any inconvenience caused as a result of these necessary works.
